A reflection by Ann M. Hampton
Depression

You used to be popular and enjoy your life but now it appears that everyone has turned their back on you, including family, and you feel lonely and depressed.
You sit at home alone and look at all the people on social media having a great time and you wish you could be a part of that but don’t know how to go about it. You want to be a part of the action, but you have low self-esteem and even at time contemplated suicide.
The devil loves this because he is stealing your joy. Don’t let him do it!!!!
I am not a physician or will try to give you medical advice but share some recommendations that I came across over the years in speaking with other people who overcame their depression.
I would first grab a cup of coffee or tea, clear your mind, and take it to the Lord in prayer. Make your petition known to Him and believe that He will provide you with the resources you need to overcome.
While you wait for your answer, be proactive. Stop and take an assessment of your life and what you may or may not be doing to contribute to your depression.
– Are you staying active?
– How is your diet? Are you eating a lot of junk food, rather than nutritional healthy meals?
– Are you exercising and getting enough sleep?
– Have you considered volunteer work or giving up some of your time to help others?
– What about joining a book club or other group?
– Did you give up on your dreams and goals? If so, go back to that goal and limit or stay off social media.
– Are you spending a lot of time listening to the news, I would cut it off and put on some upbeat music.
– Do something to pamper yourself like a massage or a nice bubble bath.
– Try meditation, yoga or go for a walk, even if it is around the yard.
– Be thankful for the positive things in your life.
– Think about how many times Our Father has protected you from danger.
– Make sure you get rid of any negative thoughts. As soon as a negative thought comes to your mind, call on our father or recite a scripture because as they say that is where the battle begins.
– Forgive yourself and leave past mistakes in the past. Don’t dwell on them, move on.
There are many bible verses that deal with depression. Here are a couple. I recommend writing them on a card and repeating them daily until you know them by heart. When you begin to feel depressed you can use this as your medication to fight it. I would go through the bible and choose some of your favorites.
If all fails, don’t hesitate to seek medical help. Our Father does not want you to suffer.
Here are a few Bible Verses to see you through this.
John 10:10
The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and may have it abundantly.
Isaiah 41:10
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Praying with You and For You.
